So first a Chase update. LIke I said in my last post, he ended up having to call an ambulance and go to the ER. My parents were thankfully able to sit with him until I got off work. They did another MRI and gave him a ton of pain meds and some muscle relaxers and by the time he got discharged that night felt like nearly normal. Very little pain. Hooray! The MRI didn’t show a ruptured disc but the doc thought it may be protruding a bit more than the previous week’s MRI and pinching the nerve. He speculated that all the medicine they gave him in the ER helped loosen the grip a bit. Obviously we were worried about the pain returning when the meds wore off… but it didn’t. He stayed feeling OK for the next couple of days. Took it easy of course, no walking around when unnecessary.
Wednesday afternoon he was able to get in with the specialist, who did some physical tests on his legs, looked at his MRIs, and in the end decided Chase is on the upswing and doesn’t think he necessarily needs a nerve block yet; instead prescribing a new set of steroids and another medicine to help with nerve pain. He hopes that those things will help get him over the hump and back to feeling 100%, and then maybe some PT down the line. Chase DOES have a nerve block scheduled, 2 weeks from today, but the doctor is thinking after this round of medication he’ll be able to cancel that – but if he doesn’t feel better, he’ll have the appointment and can go get it done.
So overall, YAY, he seems to be on the mend. Though I dread getting these bills, LOL.
I say LOL to keep that statement light but the US medical/insurance industry is such a mess.
Also I SWEAR if these mosquitos don’t stop biting me I’m gonna go ballistic. I got a ton of bites while out dyeing the Padme dress (even though I drenched myself in Off beforehand, but sitting in the water, it probably all wore off in 15 minutes), and I look like I have like leprosy or something, they’re all bad and I’ve scratched them and made them worse. And now I have 2 more. I’m going to have to start putting on off everyday if I want these cleared up by Dcon.

So Tuesday night I concentrated on finishing up the dress, got the pieces attached to the underdress at the collar, tacked the front sides down, got the back attached, got the back brooch attached. It’s mostly done now except 2 things – I think I may need to redo one of the interior sleeves; the one on the right side, it’s not sitting quite right. And I think I’m going to put a square of fabric on the inside of the outer dress sleeve opening to make them curve around.
I also pranced around the room in it for quite a bit.
Chase finished 3d modeling my headbands! He did the largest one first.
YAY! It looks great! He has some updates he wants to make to them down the road but once that’s done he’s planning to sell them.
He scaled them down to make the rest, they printed overnight last night, took a pic of them this morning:
Last night was wig night.
So I’ve styled and disassembled this Padme wig three times now. Last night I just dug in and made myself finish it. This time I tried it on a LOT as I was working on it, because the 2nd attempt I had the curve positioned way too high up and I didn’t want that to happen again.
My phone is FULL of pics of me putting this on and taking a profile pic in the mirror to check how it looks LOL.
It’s far from perfect but it will do for now. I’m hoping once I get the rest of the headbands on it’ll hide some of those sins. LOL. I think the last 5 of the headbands I’ll be sewing in place, but the top one I’ll just be putting on at the con (it’s tricky to get on my head, I have to put it on at my neck and then work it up. I can’t imagine working around that if it were permanently on the wig.) And the two front pieces of hair that curl around onto the sides – those are going to travel loose and be pinned in place at the con.
I’m already rethinking how I want to redo this; it’s not going to happen til after dcon, but at this point thinking about cutting the wig short and just caulking it down in the back, and then building a hairpiece similar to my own hairpiece I made for Versions 2-4 that attaches to the wig. Would be much easier to travel with. And hey then maybe I could use that base wig for Loyalist Committee in the future. Or not, but nice to have the option.
And when I called this one “Finished” last night, I moved back over to Crait and slapped it together, too.

I do need to put this on and make sure the buns in the back are hitting at the right spot. The hairnet on there is only there for travel – I was hoping it was one I could leave on while wearing it but it doesn’t match well enough.

Did I post this in my last post? I can’t remember. Oh well. I’m thinking this may be too much. I think I may make a separate, smaller version (smaller stones) and try them both on with the wig.
Chase went back to work yesterday. So it was our first normal afternoon in a while and I think Luna was glad to have me back on the couch, LOL.
